Why Carpet Removal Is Its Own Thing
Most people don’t realize how much old carpet weighs. A single room of 20-year-old shag-over-pad is often 200-400 lbs of material once you tear it up. Rolling it, moving it downstairs, and getting it to the dump is a full-day project you don’t want on your Saturday.
Flooring installers CAN do the tear-out but they charge $1-2 per sq ft extra. On a 1,500 sq ft install, that’s $1,500-3,000 you’d rather spend on nicer flooring. We handle the tear-out for a lot less so the installer can focus on the install.

Pricing
Carpet removal is priced by square footage + how much padding/tack strip work is needed. Standard rate covers tear-out + haul + disposal. Add-ons if we hit stapled-down carpet on stairs (more time-consuming) or if there’s water damage (requires special handling).
Frequently Asked
Can you do stairs?
Yes. Carpeted stairs take longer per square foot (stapled + wrapped around each step), so we quote separately. Usually included in the total for a whole-home carpet removal.
What about carpet with water damage or mold?
We handle wet carpet on a case-by-case basis. Actively moldy carpet requires PPE + sealed disposal. Call and describe what you’re looking at — we’ll tell you honestly if it’s within our scope or needs a mold remediation company first.
Do you take the carpet padding too?
Yes, included. We separate carpet and padding since they go to different disposal streams.
What about pet stains that soaked through to the subfloor?
We can spot-treat the subfloor with an odor-neutralizer after removal (small add-on). If the subfloor itself needs replacement due to damage, we can refer you to a carpenter.
